. DUNEDIN CHAMPIONSHIP. ' Dunedin, March IG. . Saturday was a showery day, and all the wickets - wero" very sticky, but notwithstanding the bad iveather conditions the senior matches were played. ■ Caris- : brook on the previous Saturday had made 172 rims against Carisbrook B, which had '• scored, 21 runs for 110 wickets, and the latter, continuing their innings,'made 179 (Ramsden' 4-1, Austin 35). Bannerman , took five wickets for 21 runs.' The B team thus scored a two-point win, which gives them tlie championship for the season. In the Dunedin—Grange match the former, continued their innings, which closed for 200 runs (Condliffe 88 not out). Grange made 120 rims in the first innings, and 31 in their second. 'Torrance took ■ five wickets for' 10 runs, and Mackersey three for 13. I'his result gave Dunedin ft three-point win. The Albion-Opoho match resulted in a Win for the former by 113 runs.' The Miraraar links were opened for the : season on Saturday afternoon, and fortu- . nately ■ the. weather cleared up in' tjio ; afternoon, .irnd enabled a large number of visitors and members who were present to have an enjoyable time. The captain, Mr. J. P. Firth, in a short speech, . declared th« season open, after which the usual competitions took plaoe. The results were as follow Ladies' driving competition was-won by Miss Waller (150 yds.), Miss E. Gray (144) and' Miss D. Wilson (137) being, the next test. The ladies' approaching, competition was won by Miss .M. Gavin, and the putting competition resulted in a tie between-Miss A. Marks . and Miss S. Carter. Tho men's driving was won by Mr. W. T. Doughty (187 yds.), and the approaching by. Mr. R. L. D. , Kidston. In the putting there was a tie -between five players, Messrs. H. Hawthorne, R. L. D. Kidston, Rev. A. W. H. Compton. H. S. LOCAL EVENTS DECIDED. On Friday night the final for the Junior Sculls was Towed, J. Hoare defeating E. E]iotsge after,a. good.race. On Saturday afternoon a double sculling event took place for the Bannatyne and Hunter Cup. Ten crews started—W.' Hoare (str.), A. Donaldson; A. Jackson
(str.), M. Rafter; C. J. Symonds (str.), C. Murray; E..Eustege (str.), F. Racey; H. Hinclicliffo (str.), F. Stavely; J. Hoare (str.), L. Williams; A. Barry (str.), D. Jlaroneyj-T. Jenkins (str.),ll. Shaw; H. M'Kinley (str.), S. Murray | E. Cairns (str.), 2. Harvey. First, heat: T. Jenkins defeated A. Barry by two 'lengths. Second heat: C. Symonds defeated W. Hoare by three lengths. Third heat: E. Cairns defeated J. Hoare by half a length. After rowing half a mile the crews fouled, and returned to the starting post-and raced again. Fourth heat: H. M'Kinley defeated H. Hinclicliffo by two lengths. Fifth heat: E. Enstego defeated A. Jackson by three lengths. Sixth heat: 1. Jenkins defeated C. Symonds by a canvas, after a good race. Semi-final: H. M'Kinley defeated E. Cairns by a foot. Both rowed together practically all the way, M'Kinley just getting the decision after a most gruelling raoe. T. Jenkins defeated E. Eustege by three lengths. Final: A good race was witnessed between the crews of Jenkins and Jl'Kinley, M'Kinley eventually winning by the n'arrnw margin of a. canvas. Taking the sculling right through, it was of a very high order, especially considering that' the weather conditions experienced this summer have not been of _ the best, and therefore little sculling has 'been indulged 0.

HERETAUNGA BOATING CLUB. On Saturday afternoon two yaeht races were sailed off at the Petone waterfront under the auspices of the Heretaunga Boating Club. The results Were as follow;— ...... . SUBURBS CLUB. The Suburbs Defence "Rifle Club finished their championship series on Satnrday at Broadway TCange, Miramar, jit ranges 500 and 600 yards, ten-shot match. Rifleman H. R. Hunt made 'the best score for the day off rifle 47, at both ranges, his total being M. Rifleman Hunt received three hearty cheers from his clubmates on his popular win of tho club championship. The club will be represented at Easter at the Hawke's Bay rifle meeting by tho following members: —W. M. Jackson, W. J. Johnston, R. C. Barkle, C. J. Fisher,' and J. E.- Given. BROOKLYN HARRIERS.
ANNUAL REPORT. In its annual report tho committee of the Brooklyn Harriers congratulates the club on the successful season just .-passed. The club is now sound both as regards finance and membership. The membership of the club now stands-at 58 active membens, the a>fe4^«P.aWiHdb'^ce'Svt rims" and races being 19. During the' sensoa 19 club runs were held, and five races were contested, .all -attracting 'good entries. Th'q'handicappm? was good, arid in all the races 'excellent finishes werO . witnessed. Four members attended every run of tho eeason, namely, G. Bristow. R. Harvey, S. Hurray, and A. S. Ollirer. These members were awarded the . club's gold attendance badge. The thanks of the club are due to Dr. Couzens, W. Coventry, Esq., and A. Purdie, Esq., for donations to tho club funds; also to Messrs'. L. Cooke, R. Marshall, W. Hornig, and W. Coventry for donating trophies to the club; to P. Harvey, Esq., and A. Davies, Efcq., who invited the club to run as their guests; to the press for the publicity given to harrierism j to tho "landowners for allowing the club to run over their property; and to our ardent supporter, Mr. W.
