TEE CITY MARKETS.
BUSINESS ON THE DULL SIDE. ■ Business'at the Blair and Allen Street markets lias been rather on the dull side this Meek, a condition which has probably been occasioned by the presence of , very heavy consignments ot locally-grown tomatoes, which are selling at unusually low rates. In sympathy, other lines have •; been slightly on the down grade. The shipments from .Sydney this week comprised small consignments of melon*, grapes, and Messena lemdns, and the Melbourne steamer brought a small consignment of pears. Practically tlio whole of the lines arrived in good order. The Navua arrived yesterday with a consignment of about 7000 packages of bananas, which for the better part turned out in fair order. The large shipment has occasioned a fall in values. A small shipment transhipped at Auckland from tne Friendly Islands arrived on Wednesday, and, with the exception of the oranges, which in some cases were in rather bad order, met a good market. Supplies of pears have fallen olf so far as Auckland and Hawke's Bay are concerned, and the markets are now receiving good consignments from Canterbury, which are meeting with fair\demand. Potatoes are at present being quoted freely from the south, and values have receded, the same being the , case with onions. Vegetables are in fair supply.
