James Allen, New Zealand Minister for Defence, and the Hon. T. Mackenzie, High Commissioner. Many members of the Houso of Commons and their wives were present, and tho guests also included Mr. Lewis Harcourt (Secretary of State for tho Colonies), Sir Joseph Ward, Sir W. C. Buchanan, the Hon. W. A. Holinan (At-.tornej'-Genoral of New South Wales), and Viscount Ivnutsford (Secretary of State for the Colonies, 1887-92).

Colonel Seely, Under-Secretary of State for War. who presided, emphasised New .Zealand's pioneer work in Imperial defence. , Mr. Allen said that New Zealand would not long bo satisfied' with representation merely in an advisory nature. : It was necessary that the Dominions should participate in the manning of ships and training men for higher ratings. Mr. Austen Chamberlain welcomed Mr. Mackenzie, the High Commissioner, who also replied. Mr. Allen will return to New Zealand by the Vancouver route, travelling in E.JI.S. Makura. He will arrive in New Zealand early in June.
