A BROKEN NOSE.

(By Telegraph.—Preea Association.) r /, „ Napier, March 13, In. tho Supreme Court to-day, befoi« tho Chief Justice and a jury of twelve, an action 1 for £1000 damages, brought by Frederick. Shellan against the New Zealand Shipping Company, was heard. The claim was in respect of injuries ed by plaintiff while working in the hold of the strainer Waiiuate at Tokomaru Bay in June last. Beef was being loaded, and whilo the beams on which' the butchers rest were in position, a sling of beef knocked hgainst ono of these beams, winch fell, striking plaintiff on tho lioso and fracturing it very severely. Medical evidenoe went to show that plaintiff's'nose was permanently injured, and that plaintiff would prtphauly have to be treated for the rest of his life. Ho had received such a. shaking that ho would probably never be the man lie was. There was dead bono and it was doubtful whether all the dead bone could be removed, and even if removed, whether a permanent cure could be effected. The jury awarded £55 (already paid) and .£Bl 16s. lOd. special damages, . and .£350 general damages.
