SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY

The annual tea meeting in connection with the anniversary of tho Sydney Street Methodist Sunday School was held on Wednesday evening, when there was a large attendance. Tho entertainment, which was held subsequently, and passed off most successfully, was presided over by Mr. J. ,B. Haddon (superintendent), who also gave a short address. The programme comprised! items oi'*a varied character. Recitations were given by Misses B. Coad, V. and D. Collins, H. Workman, and Master B. Stcptoe, solos by Misses 0. Henderson, G. Currie, and Master R. Scott, aft organ solo by Miss J. Nicholas, and an action song by junior scholars, whilst two dialogues entitled "Tiio Rehearsal" and "Sunshine and Rain" wero given in fine style. The various items wero interspersed with special choruses contributed by scholars and choir in a capital manner under tho baton of Mr. E. Dawson, assisted by Misses Jean Nicholas (organist) and Mabel Coad (pianist). The an v liual presentation of prizes was made by the Rev. P. J. Cossum, who also presented to tho superintendent a' diploma for the Sydney Street School, , having gained in the recent Primitive Methodist examination the highest percentage of marks of any school inUho North Island. Tho annual report and financial statement submitted by Messrs. J. Cable and C. O. Coad respectively disclosed that tho year had been one of steady progress. Reference was made to Mr. J. B. Iladdon's 3i years of active service, and also to tho Rev. J. Dumbell, who, 36 years ago, had participated in tho anniversary celebrations. Tho income amounted to. ,£37 19s. 5d., and tho expenditure to <£3G Bs. sfl., In addition to which 13s. Gd. had boon collected for orphanago and mission funds. Regret was expressed at tho early departure from that part of tho circuit of the Rev. P. .T. and Mrs. Cossum. A complimentary vote of thanks to all who had assisted terminated a most successful anniversary.
