THE NAVY LEAGUE.
SPECIAL SERVICE DECORATION TOR MR. PALMER. The monthly meeting of the local Committee of. the Navy League '"was held last night, Mr. J. B. Harcourt being in tho chair. E:ght members -of the executive were present. The London secretary wrote conveying tho congratulations of the Headquarters upon the very successful ■ celebration "-of Trafalgar- Day at Wellington. In 'intimating .that the special service decoration of, the league had been conferred on Mr. C. W. Palmer, after his nine'years of-service ak lion, secretary of the Wellington branch. A considerable quantity of correspondence was submitted from various New Zealand branches,, also enquiries as to enrolment ill the Navy and the methods of entry into tho Australian Naval College.
A discussion look place as to the allotment of the Captain Scott mementos ordered by the league for presentation to the school branches.
It was reported that endeavours were being v mnde to arrange for an address being, delivered at. Wellington by the Hon. Mr. roster, a noted speaker of the Canadian' Cabinet, who was visiting the Dominion.
The chairman'read, a letter from Mr. R. Darroch resigning the position of joint secretary of the league, as it had Jjeen found somewhat difficult to divide the duties and responsibilities of'the secretaryship. ■.
-It was stated s that the Hon. H. D. Bell had, on behalf of the Cabinet, requested Mr. B. M. Wilson'to .act in conjunction with Mr. C. ,W.'Palmer in drafting a programme of amusements and festivities in connection witlv the approaching arrival of the battle-cruiser New"Zealand.. The -Mayor, as president of the Wellington Branch' of the league has promised' his hearty co-operation. ■' Efforts are' being made by the league to ascertain: the warship's itinerary while ..in New Zealand waters.) so that the numerous inquiries made of! the local branch secretary from various parts of the Dominion ;may be. replied to.
