COASTAL ENGINEERS.
DEMANDS FOR IMPROVED CONDITIONS. Concerning the ooastal engineers' demands,'it is understood 'that; Mr. T. Wallace, secretary of tho Wellington branch of tho Marino Engineers'. Institute, and Mr. S. Hannah, secretary of the Auckland branch, had an informal conference with Mr. W. Pryor, secretary of the New Zealand Shipowners' Federation > (Wellington branch), on J ton.lay last. The whole question was discussed at length, but no actual decision was arrived at. It is understood ithat Messrs. Hannah and Wallace will meet the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Shipowners' Federation in conference early next week, when tho whole of the demands will be again discussed.
It is stated thalt if the question of overtime is satisfactorily settled, there will be no difficulty in arriving alt a settlement. The present demands ooncern only tlio, Wellington engineers, tho Auckland engineers having made an agreement with the shipowners last year.
