HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
$ FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of tho Lower Hutt Borough Council was ' held last night, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny), and Councillors Hobbs, Ball, Dawson, Roots, Clendon, Kempthorne, Hodgins, and Knight. . The Northern Union League wrote accepting the recreation grounds, and intimated that it was understood that tho Cricket Association wished to extend their season. The league therefore asked that tho football season bo extended accordingly—Agreed to. The Hutt Football Club (Rugby Union) protested against tho action of the council in letting the grounds to the llugby League. / Councillor Hobbs moved that the letter be received. The Mayor moved, as an amendment, that, a reply be sent regretting that no action could bo taken at present, owing to the grounds, being allocated, but that tho council would be prepared to consider the club's application next year. Councillor Hall thought tho Union Club had taken tho matter very badly. Tho least they could have done was to have taken their beating like the leaguo did at Tetone. He understood that the matter was to be an election one, but that did not matter to anyone. The amendment was carried.
Victoria College Cricket Club were granted the use of the recreation ground to pla,v a match against Olago University on March 21 and 22.
' Permission was also granted the Hutt School Football Club and the School Girls' Hockey Club to play on the grounds during next season. The Hutt Park' Committee asked for a further donation of «ClO in view of the expense of preparing hockey grounds for this season. The amount of expenditure involved was between i'so and «EGo.—Resolved to pay the amount, provided that l'etone did likewise. The Wellington Fire Underwriters' Association intimated that tliey wore prepared to .enter into an agreement, with tho council for salvage duty after fires, when damage hail been done lo contents or building insured by a company belonging to the association, provided that certain regulations stipulated were absei'ved. The Hutt Fire Brigade stated that the terms offered by the association were acceptable, but pointed out that the State Fire Office did not belong to the association. Councillor Clendon thought that the State office should be asked to fall into line.
Un the motion of Councillor Kempthorne, it was agreed to accept the agreement. and that tlio State office be asked to fall into line.
The Wellington City Council, in regard to the ITutt pipe bridge, and connecting street, stated that when tho agreement was entered into between the parties concerned, no, provision was made as to who should bear the cost of constructing the street between the Unit and Waiwetil bridges, but, at the last conference it was understood that the Wellington, Lower llu.lt, and l'eton? Councils would again confer in reference to Urn matter. Tlio City Council 'therefore asked for n further conference. —Tho Mayor was appointed to act mi the council's Iwhalf.
