GALE AND FLOODS IN SYDNEY, CABMAN .DROWNED IN STREET. By Telegraob-Prcos Association—Oouyrieht (Rec. March 9, 5.5 p.m.). Sydney, March 9. A strong gale, with torrential rain, hoD visited the city. Last evening the stree':a were flooded, doing considerable damage. Sailing boats in the harbour had ft rough time. A monitor of a yacht'.i crew was swept overboard and drowned. Races and sports wore postponed, liain, heavy weather, and a rough sea still continue, and shipping is 6heltering. CAB OVERTURNED ; DRIVER DROWNED. ■ (Rcc. March 10, 0.53 a.m.) , Sydney, March 9. *, Tlio rain has cleared, but the weather on the coast is still rough. Saturday night's storm was tho heaviest experienced for a long time. Thunder and torrential rain lasted for several hours, and a wide area of low-lying land in the suburbs round ■ Marrickvillo district was deeply flooded, many people being compelled, to leave their houses and take refugo in the Town lXall and elsewhere. ■ i The tram service was stopped. A cab was overturned in tlio flood waters', at Leichlmrdt, and the driver.was drowned.
