Three hundred tons of dynamite exploded when being loaded aboard the British steamer Alum Chine. The shock was felt thirty miles away, and hundreds of windows were wrecked. The Lower House in Delaware State (about fifty miles away) rocked, and members thought an earthquake had occurred. (Rec. March 9, 5.5 p.m.) New York, March 7. Fifty were killed and eighty seriously injured in the Baltimore explosion, Details of the disaster show that the Alum Chine, and a scow lying alongside, were blown to picces, while the tug Atlantic, which went to the assistance of those struggling in the water caught fire and sank. Another 6teamcr, the Jason, which sought to lend assistance, was riddled with pieces of wreckage, which were hurled, in mid-air. Tho cause of the disaster Twenty bodies have been recovered, but they are unrecognisable. A number of the crew of the Atlantic were killed by flying debris, wliich Included pieces of red hot iron. Tlie tug Britannia ran a lino aboard the Atlantic, lioping to tow her to shallow water, but 1 the vessel sank, drowning tho majority of those who had escaped tho previous hail of debris. Captain Vandyke, of the Atlantic, perished on tho deck after a gallant effort to rescue the Alum Chine's crew. Mangled bodies were floating everywhere about the sea in the vicinity of the disaster. TREACHERY SUSPECTED. GANG FOREMAN ARRESTED. (Rec. 'March 10, 0.55 a.m.) New York, March 9. Bomhart, foreman in charge of a gang of lightermen, has been arrested in connection with the Baltimoro explosion, The lightermen accuse Bomhart of sticking a hook into the dynamite and causing the explosion. Ho previously complained • that tho men were idling, and, sought to show them how such work was doone at i Los Angeles.

■ Attorney Barrow has been accused of bribery in connection with the defence of the dynamiters who were tried for the Los Angeles "Times" building outrage. The jury disagreed, and.a new trial for Barrow has been Ordered.
