HUTT RIVER BOARD.

The monthly meeting of tho Htftt Eiver Board was hold on Thursday evening.' There were present; Messrs. 11. Baldwin (chairman), 11. N. Welch, and W. Knight. A letter was received from tho Hutt Park-'Committee thanking the board for its olfer of soil for top-dressing 'on tho park at fonrpence per yard, a@d pointiii" out that tho soil was used in tho intercst of the ratepayers, and they (tho committee) would bo pleased if the board could sro their way to give tho soil gratis. Members said that a concession was made when fourpence per yard was offered, but considering the position of tho. committee the extra fifty loads they required would be given gratis. Information, was. received from the board's solicitors to the effect that tho. Patono Borough Council had, forwarded a ehequenf jC-100 in payment of land taken for bridge approach purposes. Pitcaithley and Co. wrote stating that Messrs. Iveen and Co. had removed gravel from off the river boach leased by them from the board, to put on roads on property recently cut un bv Keen 'and Co., and asked that the board take action. It. was resolved to refer the matter to the board's solicitors for an oninion. Mr. Robert J. Wilson, cf Auckland, wroto ! complaining that portion of, his land at Taita was subject to river rates wliilo. h>*s neighbours were exempt. Mr. Welch said it was true "(lint upwards ■ thirty property-owners were exempt from, river rates, but it was 110 fault of the board but those whose dutv it was <tx> allocate the land in the district that woi£d be subject to. bo rated.
