BOYS' INSTITUTE.

SOME NEW DEPARTURES. . A new chapter in the history of the Hoys' Institute was commenced this week when Mr. "Win. Bennett, of Temukn, took up his work, as director. At present tho usual activities of the institute include swimming, games, reading, music, and the like, but it is expected that more extensive work will be commenced alter tho Easter holidays, when tho new secretary has had time to formulate his plans. It is hoped that there will be live teams in tho "soccer" field this year, and the boys are aiready looking forward to opening day. The educational classes will also commence then, and the indoor games' competition will be carried on through tho winter session. Through the generosity of a valued friend of the .bovs, Mrs. S. A. Rhodes, the committee is able to acquire a complete kinomatograph plant for use in connection with Sunday services and general lectures. It is to be installed at an early, date,- and the institute will then be in tile position of pioneer in tho use of a kincimitograpli lor such meetings for boys. The committee also'' acknowledge with thanks the following gifts: Oilcloth and carpet for office, Messrs. Strange and Co.; picture, Mr. Troup; fender and irons, Messrs. Winder and Co.; cupboard and bookcase, D.1.C.; chairs, Messrs. Scoullar and Go. Owing to tho great development of this work, it is found that an extra large amount of writing has to be put through, so that a typewriter would be of great service. If any well-wisher of the institute can give any asistance in this matter ho would meet with . tho sincere thanks of tho executive. The Sunday services for boys continue to attract large numbers, the special choir and the orchestra being of great assistance. To-morrow evening the subject will bo "Cricket Rules in Institute Work," Mr. Bennett being the speaker.
