THE LIVINGSTONE CENTENARY CELEBRATION.
Special interest is being taken in the celebration o/ the Livingstone centenary, both in England and throughout the Eng-lish-speaking world. At Home the national demonstration will tako place on Wednesday, March 19, at the Albert Hall. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Balfour of Burleigh, Sir Harry Johnston, and Dr. Wardlaw Thompson will be the principal speakers, and a choir will perform the cantata "Livingstone the Pilgrim." At noon on the samo day two memorial services ore to be held, one at Westminster Chapel and the other at St. Paul's Cathedral, which will be attended by the Lord Mayor and his sheriffs. Sir Harry Johnston, in his tribute to Livingstone, says, "He showed pre-emin-ently the qualities which are of enduring value to tho British race—purity of life, intensity of application, courage, and the determination of 'getting therfc.'" Continuing, he says: "Until I travelled in Livingstone's footsteps, and entered minutely into the recorded details of his work in Africa, I realised bui'feebly the debt which African civilisation owes to this grpat man." The celebrations in this city will take the form of n mass meeting at tho Town Hall, when all tho denominations in the city will bo represented, as well as the educational and other institutions that have been influenced bv the person and work of this great "Pathfinder." Tho meetings are advertised in another part of this issue. At St. John's Church, Willis Street (Presbyterian), to-morrow there will be a "Commemoration of the centenary of David Livingstone, missionary, traveller, philanthropist." Dr. Gibb will preach the sermon.
