Ths present programme includes a very convincing dramatic picture entitled "Father." which boasts a plot of absorbing interest, and !>y way of a sensation the burning of a large mansion pi ovides plenty of excitement and is realistic to the last degree. Other interesting pictures are: "A Soldier's Furlough," "The Building of . His Majesty's' Theatre" (which has a topical interest), and a very good Vitagraph study entitled "Father and Sons." THE. NEW THEATRE. "A High Stake" is the title of the. chief picture of interest: at tho New Theatre just now. Tho plot centres 011 the infatuation of two brothers for a woman, as bad as she is beautifuL How a paternal estrangement and a suicide of the younger brother were only averted at the eleventh hour .is told. The domestic drama has of late years fallpn somewhat into disrepute. Sensational effects, hurry,- and thrills aro now tho chief ingredients of a successtul production. Both pictures are ipso facto interesting and both may be said to have been well compiled. Other good pictures aro also screened, Among these "Winter Sports at -Mount Kosciusko" is a fine film iiui gives an excellent idea of Australia's nearest aproach w St. Moritz and Switzerland. EMPRESS THEATRE. A change of programme was screened at the Empress Theatre, yesterday. An A.I), exclusive film—"Tho God Within"— is a good, clean drama that would . bo difficult to improve upon, - Abounding,' as it does, with incidents that leave nothing to bo desired from a dramatic point of view. A costume drama by the Ambrosio Company is perhaps the next best item.

"Alkali Ike's Close Shave" is a good comic item. "Tweedledum as Lady's Maid" shows that well-known comcdian in a most amusing character. Of tho scenic, items a series of views of Alliens, showing most of tho historical buildings and ruins, is the most interesting.
