MOTOR-CYCLE RACING.
Yesterday Councillor ,T. E. Fitzgerald, who is chairman of the City . Council's Motor 1 Traffic Committee, ami Councillor If. Fletcher interviewed .Mr. J. 1!. Hareourt, president of the Wellington Racing Club, in regard to a proposal to hold ii motor-cycle race meeting on Trcntham racecourse in connection with the Citizens' Easter Carnival. r '.
The Councillors informed Mr: HarcouH that the proposal was to hold the meeting on a date subsequent to the Wellington' Racing Club's next meeting) so that in the event of any damage being done to tho track there would be plenty of time for repairs. Previous, experience, however, notably in the cuso of a motor-cycle race meeting held on the racecourse at I'nlmerston North, indicated that no harm would bo done to the track. It was further submitted to Mr. Harcourt that since the Wellington citizens supported the Racing Club the latter body might very well reciprocate by nuilcinjf its course available for a motor-cycle incetiii" in connection with the carnival. Both councillors expressed the opinion (hat the motor-cycle racing, over various distance* would provide a good day's sport and would doubtless attract a large attendance of spectators from (he city, particnlnrlv in view ot the fact that no. similar meeting lias been held here in the past. Mr.'Harcourt asked that a foniial request should be made to his club in a letter trom the Carnival Committee, and o letter was accordingly sent yesterday bv r. M 13am, secretary of (he committee.
