NEWTOWN SCHOOL PICNIC.
, . Yesterday r- the, pupils of NewtownSchool, their; ■ parents,, teachers, and friends, to the number of well over a thousand, mustered in Newtown Park for their .'annual picnio .and sports. The day was-all that could be desired, tho committee and te'acbcrs had mado very complete arrangements and everything, went off. as > such gatherings-should. A .very large programme of sports was gone through, many of the > prizes having been presented! by friends ■or supplied by; the committee. 1 .Each child in the'-infant department, was'presonted with a toy, and also, through the kindness of. Mr, Arthur, iyith ,a substantial bag of sweets. One ana nil spent a most enjoyable day, the only trouble being to persuade the youngsters to leave when the time came- for going home. _ The following are the principal items, in. ; the sports programme:— ■ ' • ;, School; Championship.—Boys—Fairbairri, Wright .and Co.'s cup.
