■—* T . (From Qur Special Correspondent.) 1 , Masterton/ February 25. In the weight-guessing' competition at the Masterton show, Messrs. W. S. Jackson and W. Eagle, of Masterton, tied in the bullock guess, each having guessed the exact weight, viz., Gl7lb. Mr. E. M'Grath guessed within half a pound of the weight of the three sheep,' anil Mrs. A. H. Percy, of Bideford, came second. The results of tho competitions for sheep for freezing purposes, at tho Solway show, were made known yesterday. The exhibitor gaining most points retains Messrs. Walker and Hall's silver cup for tho year. Tho trophy went to Mr. 11. K. M'lCenzic, of Masterton, who scored 26 points. Mr. J. Strang, of Gladstone, came second with 24 points, Mr. W. H. Beetliam third with 1G points, and Mr. H. H. Beetham fourth with 14 points. In the farmers' classes, for which a fifteen-gui Lea cup was presented by Messrs. Alex. Robertson and Sons, Messrs. Shaw and Son, of Te Ore Ore, wero first with -10 points, and Messrs. M'Kenzio Bros., of AVoodlands, second with 14 points. In the agricultural produce section, Messrs. G. H. Perry and Co. win the association's gold medal for tlie. most * points, with 45 points. Tho W.F.C.A. came second, with 32 points. ' Tho list of entries received for tho Masterton Horticultural Society's show tomorrow totals 582—pot plants 59, cut flowers 144, decorative 39, gruit 67, vegetables 44, homo industries 33, fancy work 65. In the amateur classes there are 85 entries in cut flowers, 21 in fruit, and 25 in vegetables. Complaints have been made by anglers that poaching has been freely indulged in during the last fet months, and that tho streams in the neighbourhood of Masterton are almost depleted of trout, .
