Sir Henry Roscoe, the veteran chemist nnd. scientist, pupil of Bunsen, celebrated his eightieth birthday on Janunry 7. at his .secluded country ' house, Wo"dcoto I/odgc, on a ridgo seven miles from Guild.ford. "A deputation of eicht of. his old pupils at Owens College, Manchester, all distinguished men. arrived to congratulate him on his birthday, nnd to present him .with an-address and a proposal for commemorating, his eighty years by tho gift of his bust to tho Chemical Society of London.
Specially augmented staffs of experts are engnKcd at the lioyal Aircraft Factory, Farnborough Common, oii new "(lying gun" biplanes. Plans are also being: prepared for two new airships; ono of which will bo of slightly greater capacity,, than tho Delta.
