.":hv ■■■': ... WHARF LABOURER INJURED Guyi Coclcburn, a. wharf labourer, sustained severe injuries whilst working on board the Union Company's sleamer Manuka yesterday morning. It appeavs that Cockburn was working .on declt'at one of tKo forward hatches when-ia sling of cargo struck him, with the result thtit he was hurled across tlio dcck and over the side of the vessel on to the wharf—a distance of 20 feet or more. In falling,. Cockburn managed to steady himself by catcliinsr hold of a cnr?o net, which was suspended from the Manuka's side to tho wharf. Dr. Robertson, a patenter by tho Manuka, and Dr. Pigeon attended the case, and found that tho injuries were crushed ribs and broken fingers on the risht hand.- Cockburn. who is about. 35 years of ago and resides at _ Mitchelltown, was removed to the hospital. MACHINE ACCIDENT. H. Dilmer, aged 25,' a resident of No. 99 Tasman. Street, and employed ty tlio Empire Box Manufacturing Company, Newtown, was admitted to the public hospital yesterday afternoon. Dilmav who is a clerk, was helping to work a punching machino when one of his hands was accidentally caught in tho machinery; the result being the crushing of ono of his fingors. / "Remember you may meet with an accident any day.
