TRAINING COLLEGE CONFERENCE. • . SUGGESTED ALTERATIONS. The conference of the principals of training colleges And boards of advice, which sat in Wellington for the last sevoral days, has concluded its business. Mr. G. Hogbon (Inspector-General of Schools) presided nt tho conference. Dr. W. -I. Anderson (Assistant-Inspector-Cion-eral) and Mr. T. 11. Gill, M.A., LL.B. (Inspector of Secondary Schools), also, were in attendanco r.s representatives of the: Education Department. THE SALARIES QUESTION. Tho conference decided to recommend tho. Minister to alter tho scale of salaries for assistants, lecturers, and instructors at' training colleges, so that instead of thero being provision, for one at a minimum salary of. £210 and a maximum of £210, one at £180 to £210, two at £150 to £180, two at £120 to £150, and two at £90 to £120, there will be two £210 to. £240, three at £180 to £210, and three at £150 to £180. • :. !?'...% WOMEN AND THE BOND. ■■ On.tho motion of Mr. E. K. Mnlgan (Auckland), it'wa3 resolved: "That the length of time for which a student shall be required to enter into a bond to teach after having completed n course at a training college should' not, in the case of women, exceed two year's, provided that 'the two years in question pe those immediately following the completion of the ;courso." Richardson (Dnnedin), it was resolved: "That it should bo regarded.as the duty of the training colleges- to make! provision' for the assistance' of uncertificated teachers by means of correspondence classes and otherwise, and that the regulations be amended accordingly to enable this work to, bo .undertaken,' , '" .
