STREET TRAFFIC.
PROPOSED, POLICE CONTROL. (By Teleeraph —Press Association.) " - ■ 'Auckland, February 17. ' The proper regulation- of vehicular and pedestrian traffic .has for some- considerable time past been engaging the atten-. tion of the Auckland City Council, and the need for a more vigorous enforcement of the city by-liiws. has led' tlio Mayor to make a recommendation to the City, Council .finance committee.that the Police Department should bo asked to take .over the control and regulation of street, traffic in Auckland. ,Tho Mayor has further instructed the Town Clerk to write to Wellington and obtain particulars of the agrcememt under which the police control the whole of tho city traffio there.
[The foregoing, telegram goes somewhat beyond the facts of the case. The Hon. A. L. Herdnian stated last evening, on being applied'to, that no agreement had yet been completed in regard to police control of traffic in Wellington, though it was true that,a. proposaHn that,direction was under consideration.]
