RESCUE AT LTALL; BAY. • The efficacy of the life-saving reel in oases of surf accidents was fully, demonstrated at Lvall Bay on Saturday afternoon Inst, when the Maranui Surf and Life Saving Club was successful in rescuing a nlan named M'GTOgor whom tho backwash had carried beyond the breakers. It appears that M'Grcgor swam (out to tell a young lady to come ashore, but found that she was unable to do so and that he was similarly placed. 'Their plight was noticed by tho Maranui Club s look-out,- and a snuad went immediate y to the resouo. The lady was safely brought ashore by two members. .Mr. Newman, of the Lyall Bay Surf Club, stood by M'Grcgor till the bcltman arrived and took charge of him, when all were brought safely . ashore. : .Special praise is due to Mr. G. 0. Morgan, who acted as bcltman, and who had a strenuous twenty minutes' struggle with, the breakers, and to-Mr. Newman who stood bv M'Grewr witbdut regard to his own safety.' M'Gregor ond his rescuers were thoroughly exhausted when shore, was reached but the resuscitating appliances kept at the Maronu,i, Club's rooms soon restored them.; This is the second rescue effected past weekby the Maranui Club. On Sunday February 9, a man named Evans was brought ashore in an Hon mid restored by tho Royal Life Saving Society's methods.
