ANOTHER FERRY SERVICE.
EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL IN EARNEST.. M'Gregor and Co., of Port Chalmers and Dunedin, who built tho 6teamer Earnslaw for the Late Wakatipu service for the Government, has supplied tho Eastbourne Borough Council with a quotation for an. improved Earnslaw. The new steamer, if ordered, will bo built of steel. Her dimensions would bo—Length, IGOft.i beam, 26ft.; and draft, 10ft. 6ia. She would carry 1300 passengers at a speed of fifteen miles per 1 hour, .which would mean, that the trip between the ferry wharf and Bona Bay would be corcred in half an hour. All the councillors present were satisfied, with the : class iof boat submitted, being ablo to, judge-the ,vesS4l fairly accurately by inspecting a stries of photographs of the Earnslaw, which in general plan is not unlike the Duchess.; It was reported that Mr. M'Gregof had visited Wellington last week, when, in Answer to a request, ho offered to supply a quotation ior fi twin-screw vessel. The quotation will como to hand this week, when a special meeting will bo called.
