Vienna. Tho whole population of the capital was occupied with aromance in the Imperial family. The Archduchess Elconora,' eldest daughter of Admiral tho Archduke Karl Stefan, has besomo betrothed to Lieutenant Alfons von Kloss, a "piember of tlio nobility. This gentleman is a young naval officer, who'has had a rapid and successful career, and belongs .to a Silesian family. He is at present a mem--b?r of tlio Marine Technical Committee at Pola. ■

Lieutenant von Klos3 is 32 years of age, and i 3 very popular with his followofficors. It is stated that he fell in lovo with tho is six years younger than himself—several years ago. The lieutenant has acted as commander, of tho yacht Rovonska, belonging to tho Archduke Karl Stefan. The Archduke frequently went for pleasure: cruises, which lasted for several days, and tho Arohduohess frequently joined in these excursions. Tints the two young people came into contact with each other, and au affection sprang ud between them, but the attachment was kept secret from the worldl at largo-until the present time. Tho parents of the Archduchess only discovered tho secret when the young lady wroto to a cousin in Vienna telling her of the romantic attachment. ■ "I shall never give my hand, to another," the' Archduohess wroto to her cousin. "I hope to spend a happy life at the side of tho only man I love." s , '

As soon as they learned their daughter's secret, tho parents of the Archduchess gave their consent to her betrothal ■ with Lieutenant van' .Kloss. Tho story also camo to tho' ears of the Emperor, who caused inquiries to bs mndo regarding tho lieutenant/ The result of these inquiries proved to be entirely satisfactory, and the young lieutenant, was summoned to an audience at which the Emperor graciously gave his consent to tho-marriage, whereupon the betrothal was celebrated at the Castle in Saybusch in Silesia, whew the archducal family resides. Tho wedding of the young couple will take place at Saybusch at -tho cad "bf January, and on tho dixy" the younger . sister, Princess Mochtilde.-.will marry Princo Cznrtoryski. As a' consequence of tho marriage, the Archduchess Elconora will leave the Imperial family, and has renounced all her Tights as a member of tho-house. Her fiance is the son of a simple citizen; his father was a naval officer at Trioste Harbour, and on leaving the service some three years ago was raised to tho nobility.

Just before her departure from Euston by the Cunard boat special for America, Miss Julia Gulp, the Dutch singer, informed tho police that her jowel case, containing jewels and valuables worth i£2500, had been stolen from her luggngo. Tho train was delayed a few minutes while a search was made, and a detective travelled, by it to Liverpool, but without result.
