AUSTRALIAN LAW RESENTED., By Tolejrraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney/ February 14. Speaking at a function'in celebration of General Yuan Shih-kai's acceptance of the Presidency of the Chinese Republic, a leading Chinese merchant, in condemning Australia's restrictive measures, said, that as the Chineso became more enlightened the Commonwealth would promptly find that the President would ask it to adopt a more conciliatory l method of treating them; otherwise Australian goods would not find a place in the Chineso markets. A year ago China was regarded as fair game for other nations; to-day some-of the same nations' were watching wltb tho greatest interest tho trend of affairs in China. '. ' . '
