Although Dreyfus denied- it,- the, Major said that after writing a few.lines he turned pale and his hand trembled, whereupon he ordered him' ..to be arrested. One story is that while Dreyfus was in prison du Paty do Clam used to creep noiselessly into his cell, and then suddenly, flash a strong light on the prisoner's face,' to see if he looked guilty..
