MIXED BATHING.
AT THE MUNICIPAL BATH& j." '' At the last meeting of tho City. Coun«. ' cil it was decided that oertain hours ~, 6hould be set aside for mixed bathing at ' tho Thorndon Baths, and the hours between 2 p.m. and sundown on Tuesdays,, and Thursdays were fixed. The new idea' was put into operation for tho first .lirno on Tuesday afternoon, when about fifteen ladies, • mostly accompanied-by tlieir husbands, enjoyed a dip. It is understood .that tho attendance of tlio fair6ex would liavo been larger had the weather been wanner., Rules and regulations are to bo drafted to govern mixed bathing at , tho baths, but in tlio meantime neck-to- : knee costumo is to bo worn.
Tho custodian of tho Thorndon Baths (Mr. -J. Calnan) states that tho water,nt tho Thorndon Bntha this season lias been better than for J'ears past, aud tho threatened silting up of tho sand owing to tho adjacent reclamation lias not amounted to ; anything very serious. Except ■at extremely low tides tho depth of water is excellent. 1
