PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSIONERS.

A southern paper recently published a rumour from lijs Wellington correspondent to the effect that the nttitudo of one of tho Public Service Commissioners towards tlio officers of tho Departments he had been inspecting had caused friction, and, in one instance, slated tho "rumour," ono of the! heads of the Customs Department, had been "so incensed?' - that he bad resigned as a protest, the incident only being smoothed over at the intervention of the Minister.

A representative of The Dominion submitted the "rumour" to the Chief Commissioner, Mr. D. Robertson, who caused eoine inquiries to be made, with the following result:—"So far as I can ascertain," said Mr. Robertson, "there is not tho slightest foundation for'these rumours.

Tho matter was also' mentioned to the Primo Minister (Mr. Massey), and the Minister for Justice (Mr. Herdman), both of whom remarked that they had' heard nothing of the kind suggested. ■
