SKILLED LABOUR.
SHORTAGE IN NEW ZEALAND,
Tbo shortage of skilled labour was mentioned at last night's meeting of the Wellington Industrial Association. The subject of immigration was being discussed in connection with a letter from Mr. 11. Ross, asking if the assoenation. would appoint representatives to give evidence before'the Umpire Trade Commission, , Tho chairman (Mr. L, R. Partridge) remarked that industries in the Dominion had been held back on. account of the shortago of skilled labour. Ho had not been able to get figures of tho total number of men required, but lie could do with twenty in his own business. lie mentioned that tho labour Department was Bending tin official through tho Dominion gathering information as to the shortage of skilled lnbeur. ' After somo little discussion it was agreed (on tho motion of Sir. D. Robertroll) that Mr. Partridge, Mr. J. P. Luke, and tho secretary (Mr. IT. F, Allen) appear before tho commission as representatives of the association, , .Mr. M. Manthell suggested that members of tho association might bo circularised ns to a suitable date to go beforo the commission. Then, if thev desired, they could givo individual evidence, This suggestion was also adopted.
