"I'm very sorry—l couldn't prevent myself, whimpered tho, undersized littio chap, when he was brought beforo Mr. E, C. Cntten, S.M., this morning. Asked why he colildn't help it, ho replied that ho had be'en told that if he escaped tho gaol peopls wouldn't worry about him.

The gaoler stated that, prisoner this morning tried to mnko himself sick by chewing salt, ;••
