THE CANTON MISSIONS.

At a meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery to-day, Dr. Kirk, of the Canton Villag'o Mission, called attention to the urgent necessity of the Church being prepared to invest .£11,400 in. tho purchase of land and tho erection of buildings in the Canton field duriiid the'next two years. This sum was needed in addition to nn extra amount, of .£lsoo', required' for. tho .continuance uf work which was being carried un at pves'iil. Dr. Kirk stated that the urgent need of tho three departments of teaching, preaching, and healing. were schools with an adequate staff of teachers and suitable buildings, churches with wellequipped ministers, and n hospital with all modern arrangements and appliances. These could only be carried on \( the Church was prepared to provide tho necessary funds. A resolution was passed that a letter be sent to all sessions mid deacons' courts within the bounds of (ho. presbytery,, drawing attention lo the appeal nud exhorting vhem lo'cndeavour, by every means in their power, to exeiie the interest and enlist the sympathy and liberality of their respective congregations.
