Election of office-bearers in connection with the New Zealand branch of tho Fedorated Seamen's Union of Australia are taking place throughout New Zealand at present. Tho Wellington branch held their meeting last evening, but the result of the ballot will not be mado known until momljers of other branches havo held their meetings. Tho successful candidates for office in the various centres aro elected by a combined vote of all the members of the Seamen's Union in Now Zealand. As previously stated, Mr. W. T. Young has wen re-electod unopposed as secretary of tho Wellington branch.
Tho announcement that the Citizens' Carnival is provisionally arranged to toke place during tlio week before Easter has caused considerable annoyancoamong tho clergy and laity of the Anglican Church. At a meeting of representatives from the various parishes of the city, held yesterday, under the presidency of Archdeacon Fancourt, it was resolved to ask-tho Bishop to protest emphatically against this carnival being held during that week, Tho incetiiig felt that considerable support had been given to the carnival on the understanding that it was an Eafcter carnival, and did not begin till after Friday. Auckland has so many parks that few Aucklanders could remcmbertho names of them all off-hand. Another is to bo open : ed up shortly. Tho Wcsleyan Maori sion generously provided tho [beautiful area of about 50 acres, known! as Waikowhai Park, for tho benofit of the people of Mount. Roskill. Last year the Road Board raised a loan of <61600 for reading, fencing, laying on water, and generally improving tho beautiful area. ' The Government has also granted a subsidy of .£SOO to assist in the work of improvement. At tho present time a large staff of men is employed in reading, terracing, and in other work, with tho object of beautifying tho park. It has three-quar-ters of a mile of sandy beach, making a magnificent 6Ca frontage. The sum of .£2500 has been expended on Ridge Road and other thoroughfares, giving access to the park. The beautiful native bush, camping, sports, and, playing grounds in tho charming res<jrvo will be accessible by either road or water, The i>ark is within a very easy distance of the city and all the suburbs. \
An official inspection of the Wellington police force is to tako place at the Larabton Quay 6tatlon this afternoon. _ Tho inspection is to be made by tho Minister for Justice, tho Hon. A. L. Herdman, who will probably bo accompanied by Commissioner Cullen. Besides inspecting a parade of the police force, a general inspection of tho station itself will - be made. ' , - ■ ■ i- '
