CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Messrs. A. E. Mabin, C. Jones (chairman), E; G. Pilcher, F. W. Manton, A. Leigh Hunt, Thos. Ballihger, W. J. Thompson, A. S. Biss, and T. C. Dawson wero present at the first monthly meeting of the council-of the Wellington' Chamber of Commerce held yesterday afternoon. ■ i • : ■ Tho bank certificate showed a credit of 15s. ' . In the corrcspoadenco was a letter from Mr. B. Van Staveren drawing the attention to the recent hotel fire at Marton, and pointing out that such a-fire' could not nave occurred had there been a night porter on tho premises. Incidentally the writer mentioned that the Commercial Travellers' Club might see that all tha hotels on its list kept night porters. Mr. Biss suggested that it was more a matter for the Travellers' Club' than the Chamber of Commerce. . Mr. Manton said that tho hotel in question was not on tho club list, but that the club committee was, ho-understood, looking into the matter of night porters iiL'country.hotels on the list.It was finally decided that a letter be written ou the subject to the various Licensing Committees in the Wellington province, y
