PETONE SEWERAGE SCHEME.

: WORK TO COMMENCE. LOAN OF .£9OOO TO BE ACCEPTED. For tho purpose of considering certain questions in regard to loan monoy offered to, carry out the sewerage scheme, the Petone Borough Council met last night. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'lJwan) presided, and thero wore also present:—Councillors R. W. Sliort, J. List, C. P. Brocklebank, W. Cox, W. J. Lodder, S. V r . Burridge, W. Trueman, J. Piper. Tlio Mayor explained that the main reason for calling councillors, together was to consider an offer to loan the council a sum of. money at per cent, to be devoted to the carrying out of the sewerage scheme. Ho had asked for a 'report on the progress of tho scheme, and copies of this ■. were now before councillors. They would consider tho question of printing debentures, which may'.be issued from timo to time os required at such rates of interest as may op agreed upon.'nud also consider tho question of calling for tenders for the supply of drain-pipes, which it, would bo just as well to get as soon as possible. Jit had been suggested that the scheme should, be submitted to an outside expert for report, and the names of. several qualified to tidviso could b« considered in committee, as also the matter of the offer of the loan of to the council.

A roport from Mr. R. Fox, on tho progress of tho sewerage scheme, was then discussed. It stated that the septic■ tank' and 'details, outfall sewer,' manholes, 'and lampholes, have boon designed and drawn. The township is divided into fqur zones or'sectionsj each having its own pumping station. No. 1, section serves the area lying between Jessie Street on the east and Bolton Street on the west; and 'bounded by the stop bank on the north side of Pattio, Street, provision having been made to reticulate that portion north of Heretaun'ga Street, when the roads are formed. No. 2 section embraces the area between Bolton and Victoria Streots, and from tho Esplanade to.Jackson Street, including Elizabeth Street, Gear and Petone Avenues.' No. 3 section takes in that portion 'between Victoria Street and the Hutt. Road, .including the' Woollen Mills, 'Railway Station, and a portion of Jackson Street. ' No'.' I section* sewers' that portion, of the borough ! from Jackson Street to Whites Line, and from Britannia "Street to'RiddlerVCrescent.
