BREAKING AND ENTERING

."A VERT UNDESIRABLE BOY." - - i {By Telegraph.—Press 'Association.) Auckland, February 10. ' A youth named Edward Chas. Banbury, alias John Bandley, 18 years of age,, who among other nefarious exploits, escaped from the . exercise yard at the Auckland police station on January 25, and was recaptured at Dovonport a day or two later, appeared .before Mr. Justice Edwards at the Supreme Court to-day on a;charge of escaping from custody and five charges of breaking and entering, committed-'oil January 20 (two charges) aud January 22 (three charges). Prisoner asked his Honour for another chance, saying he was sorry for what ho had done.

. lift Honour: You havo had so many chances, young man. If you had only misbehaved yourself onco I would have some reason to believe you when you say yoti' are sorry. You have done something iu New South Wales. If you had been sorry then you would havo kept clear of crimo here. -You have committed so'many offences that if I were to sentence you separately on each charge it would tako tho extent of three lifetimes to cover the period. You are a very undesirable boy, and I am sorry you did not stop where you were reared. You havo no excuso at all. Thero is great demand for boys in Now Zealand, aud.they can do exceedingly well if they choose to, but you preferred to climb up waterpipes into shops to honest toil. You have got to learn that you cannot act liko that in this country.

His Honour added that he would tako prisoner's youth into account, and would only impose a light sentence of twelve months' hard labour on each charge, tho terms to bo concurrent, and would order him to bo detained )for a further term not exceeding iivo years for reformative treatment.
