RIFLE SHOOTING.
AT TRENTHAM AND ELSEWHERE.Ride shooting club matches were continued on tho various ranges at Trentham : nnd elsewhere last Saturday. The climatic conditions were fairly good, and consequently some good scores were made. ' , ' TEAMS' MATCHES. The Karori Ride Club fired teams' matches against the Defence Stall Rillo Club and the Old Nnvnls Club. Tne conditions in the case of the first mutch were seven shots at each of the three ranges, 300, 500, and COO yards, and in tho case of the match against the Old Xavuls, seven shots at 3U'J and 500 yards. The former' provided a most interesting, contest. -At the finish of the 300 yards range the Staff team held an advantage of\ll points, which was increased to a lead of 13 points at 500 yards. At the concluding range, however, the Karori team managed to make- good the deficit, and secured a win bv the very narrow margin of one point. The lop score for the match was made bv Rifleman J. Burns,'of the Karori. Club, who notched 98 out of the possible 105. The next best score was that of 93 put up by Bifloman F. W. Ching, of the Staff Club. • ~ „ . Tho match against the Old N avals Club resulted in a somewhat easy win for Karori by 81 points. Eifleman G. Tinney and J. E. Turner both shot well, the former putting on 08 ont of the possible 70, and the latter C 7. The best scores for tho Old Navals team were 65 and 64, registered by Rifleman J. The Suburbs-Defence Rifle Club continued the trophy shooting at Miramar on Saturday,. at ranges-.500 and 700 yds., for trophies presented to tho club by Messrs. Heiupton and Bellamore, Witcomlio and Pym, and tho An eight-inch bull's-eye being ,-used at 700 yds, The best score at 500 yds; was ,by ,T. J. Chapman, .'..with "17,' and at 1 700 yds.' by C. J. Fisher and J. A, Ross, each; with 44 apiece, Ross winning on the count back, and securing the silver spoon for the best scoro at 700yd5... A special-prize has been donated by Mrs. W. M. Jackson,'lady vicepresident of the club, to .bo allotted to tho member who secures the least number of misses -at 700-and 1000 yds. Mr. W. M. Jackson has also, donated a special prize for the least number o£'misses ; over the whole of the championship' series'. Tho club will continue their shooting on Wednesday at Miramar, .finishing their second n'mtch-in,the fourth series at 50yds.
