WHITE CLOVER.
PRICE-.SIGO PER TON. The farmer must have white clover seed for his mixtures, and as things stand today he must pay a fancy prico for it. Tho value of first-grado seed at present is JEIGO per ton, whereas the average prico is something liko JC7O to .£BS. Probably at no stage of New Zealand farming has .£IOO per ton been exceeded. The new Englisn crop is due in May, and if this is' heavy the price .of the seed may decline, but if the English season is a bad one the price will naturally rise even higher than at stands to-day. Considering tho demand thero always is for white clover, it is surprising that New Zealand growers have not essayed growing the seed on commercial lines. In' tile opinion of a North Island farmer who has from tho South Island, there are hundreds of acres of land in Canterbury which would grow excellent clover seed. During his tour,' the farmer in question states that ho saw excellent white clover in plenty, but harvesting it was out of tho question, because of the fact that it was growing amongst tussocks. While the price of white clover has advanced, another imported seed—timothy | —has receded frqm .£BS per ton (last year) to from £32 to X 35 per ton.
