COLLISION.
TRAM AND BRAKE.
THREE PERSONS INJURED.
A fatal accident, that occurred at tho corner of Hunter Street and Customhouse Quay 6ome months ago, was recalled on Saturday night by a collision between a tram and vehicle on the same spot. Fortunately on this occasion the result was not so serious as it might havo been, for though some twenty persons were in the brake with which tho tram collided, only three were injured to any extent. The brake, which was returning from a picnic held by Messrs. Duthio and Co.'s employees at the Lower Hutt, was driven by J. V. Dyke, of Pretoria Street, Lower Hutt. About 7.10 p.m., the brake was turning from Hunter Street to Customhouse Quay, when tramcar No. C 5, bound for tho General Post Office, struck it. Two of tho horses were knocked down and cut about, and two of the jassengers were thrown to tho ground.,. Those injured were taken to the Central Botel by Constable Barton, and, after being attended to by Dr. Holmes, were able to be taken to their homes.
Tho names of tho persons injured are:— Agnes Noble, of 168 Hankoy Street, concussion of the brain; Florrie Hill, of 12 Home Street, face bruises; and Rebert Noble, of IGB Hankey Street, concussion .of the brain and strained wristi
Rebert Adams, the motorman, says that the tramcar was travelling about eight miles-an hour at the time of tho mishap, and that the gong was sounded before the corner was reached. The driver of tho vehicle says that ho did not henr tho gong sonnd at all. The vehicle was proceeding about four miles an hour at the time. .' -
