CITY TRAFFIC.
QUESTION OF, POLICE CONTROL. (By OWegr&ph.-PreJi Association.) Auckland, February 7. Interviewed this afternoon ' regarding tho police control of the city traffic, the Mayor of Auckland (Mr.' Parr) expressed the opinion that tho idea was a capital, one. .-' . ■ ; : '' "I have," said Mr, Parr, "on more than ono occasion urged that the police (should control the street traffic of. large; cities. Now that tho Government has. made ar-r rangements with ; tho Wellington,' City Council, there is no reason why thoy should, not make, arrangements with Auckland. I -shall take an early opportunity to get the opinion of tho council on the idea. Five hundred pounds'.a year scorns to- ino rather a heavy,'clurfgo. I do not know whether we. would be prepared to pay so much, but as the city : is jrowing monthly by tho inclusion of 6uburbs," probably tho expenditure will not bo seriously felt by Greater Auckland. Wo should of course still have to. retina' an officer or two for th* purpose of issuing license.fees and to cxamino motorcars, cabs, and so forth, but tho, prin. ciplc of police control is absolutely right
