Tho Wahaka on Saturday traversed many miles of thick smoke, and it was occasionally impossible to see moro than ono milo ahead wliilo crossing tho Bay of Plenty on Friday. With difficulty tho Wnnaka - pioked up tho Cuvior Island light. Tho Tarawora arrived to-day from southern ports., Sho reported a heavy huzo from East Capo to Auckland. Sho saw extensive fires raging near East Cape, and it was impossible to soo the land more than , five miles away. The atmosphere of Auckland city and suburbs has been filled .with drifting smoke for two or three, days. '- . : ;
