PTOMAINE POISONING.
UNPLEASANT ENDING TO A PICNIC. (By Telegraph.-Prcss Asjooiatlon.) Christchurch, February 9. There was an unforeseen and unpleasant ending to a picnio of the employees of Weeks, Ltd., at Rongiora on Saturday. As the result of partaking either of pressed beef or tinned tongues, about twentyeix out of one hundred of thoso attending tlvo picnie arc, suffering from tho effects of ptomaine poisoning; Some doubt exists as to whether tho poisoning re duo to the meats mentioned or to some ingredient of tho salad dressing. Some of thoso who ato tho pressed beef nnd tinned tongues are unaffected. One person is so ill that ho had to be left at Rangiorn, and one railway carriage was set apart for tho other sufforors, all of whom wero eft* on tho journey from Itangiora to town. It is staled that ten cases aro considered.somewhat serious, though tho majority wero reported this afternoon to be progressing favourably.
