NO SHORTAGE OF SURVEYORS,

The Hon. W. H. Homes informed a re-' porter on Saturday evening that when, in a recont.statement, he mentioned a shortage of surveyors as an obstacle to tho settlement of Native lands, he was referring only to what had been the case in the past, and not to the position at the, present timo. ,'' _ ' , "I did not say," remarked Mr. Hemes, "that thore was a shortage of surveyors just now. Survey work on Nativo landa for settlement is earned out either by staff surveyors of the Survey Department, or by private surveyors. Formerly the procedure preliminary to tho surveying of Native lands was very complicated, but it has been amended and modified by tho Government with a view to facilitating settlement. .Tins result, Mr. Herries stated, had'been, attained.
