ORGANISE.

WATCHWORD TO EMPLOYERS. "MUST CEASE FROM DRIFTING." Somo weeks ago now the New Zealand Employers' Federation issued a circular memorandum to employers, marked "private and confidential," urging upon them the necessity to organise and combine for their own safety "agaiiist Socialism and syndicalism" in New Zealand., As the memorandum has already been' published in a weekly paper, the saino riiay how be made available to readers of The Dominion without any breach of confidence. The memorandum is headed:—"New Zealand Employers' Federation," "Urgent and Imperative Needs," "More Or-, ganisation," "Establishment of a Defence Fund to Combat Socialism, Syndicalism, Anarchy." The text is as follows:— "That the future well-being of the Dominion arid the interests of all who have : a stake in tho country are seriously threatened by the ever-increasing aggressiveness of the Labour parties cannot be denied.. That unless employers and those whose interests are in jeopardy combine and organise to. combat the fallacies of Socialism and syndicalism it is manifest that in h short timo our industries _and our politics will be in the hands of irre-' sponsible persons who will wage > class war. ' ■■;■'..■ "Tho employers must cease' drifting, and-organise more effectively. i "At the'last annual general meeting of the New Zealand Employers' Federation - it was unanimously decided toJmprove, "j extend, and consolidate the organisation of employers. With, a view to giving full * effect to the above decision, tho Advisory G Board Was instructed to appoint one or si two organisers and to use its best endeavours to increase the effectiveness of the p, work of the federation. To this end the || Advisory Board has decided to appoint 0 j Mr. N. M'Robie, of AVaihi, who is at jj present editor and part proprietor of tho j| Waihi 'Daily Telegmph' newspaper, as assistant secretary, and Mr. E. A. Arm- y strong, of Auckland, as organiser'. Mr. v Armstrong has already proved himself an organiser of no moan ability. In- addi- j ( tion, it has been found absolutely neces- j ( sary to have offico assistance, q and .'more suitable offico appliances and ri accommodation. "Besides the' foregoing tho Advisory y Board hopes to be in a position to secure spaces in tho daily newspapers, say, once j, a week, for the purposes of expsing the many fallacies enunciated by the Labour leaders, to publish reliable statistics and • general information in tho interests of the organisation, and particularly to deal , with.proposed legislative enactments. Tho Advisory Board estimates the annual cost <. of the proposals at about ,£2500, a very 1 modest sum in comparison with the many I thousands spent annually by the Labour parties. Then, in addition to the above, it ,is imperative that, a defence fund should bo established to. meet contingencies as they arise, and which in the past have had to be. met by personal canvass. Altogether, it will be seen that a sum of at least .£SOOO nor nununi is neceseaTy to inaugurate the forward, movement, a sum that should bo -easily attained if employers realise the truo, position of things. ..'■*.■' "Tho Advisory Board, acting under in- ' structions ,of ,tho annual meeting of the Federation, now colls upon largo employers of labour to pay into this fund 2s. 6d. per annum for ovcry hundred pounds of . wages paid. Professional men, merchants; sheep owners, farmers,, property owners, etc., ,aro appealed to for as liberal an annual subscription as the ciraUnistances of tho caso demand. ■. "The Advisory Board has;every confidence in appealing to those interested to support the movement as.liberally as.possible, believing that in so doing it is asking them, to subscribo to an insurance •, • fund as necessary as thdso of life or fire insurance. .^, "Kindly-fill in.the accbnlpanying ached- ', ule and forward crossed cheque, P.O. order, or remittance to. tho fceorttoty, New Zealand Employers' Federation, Woodward Street, Wellington. An addressed- envelope is enclosed for tho purpose." , The document is signed by ifr. W. Hopkirk, president, and Mr. T. Shailer Weston, vice-president. - , SCHEDULE. . ■ "Tho Secretary, ■' , "New Zealand Employers' Federation, "Woodward Street,-Wellington. "Herewith please find enclosed a ' cheque for £-: : , being 2s. 6d. for every .£IOO of wages paid during the twelve'months ended August 31, 1912, as 'a subscription to the organising and dofence funds of tho New Zealand Employ- ,■ crs' Federation for the year ending Aug- . list 31, 1913, and in accordance with. tho resolution passed by the Federation at its last annual meeting. , . , ~ •."Name. :.....,......
