THE BY-ELECTION." • The by-election of the Hutt River Board, caused through tho,resignation of Mr. T. A. Pctcrkin, took place yesterday. The in-i terest taken in voting, was. very littlo. There aro approximately '. kune 1300 ratepayers, with - a oumulativo voting power extending to .1600.. Only 229 ratepayers recorded their votes, but this may have been due to tho fact -that thero was only one polling booth (at Lower Hurt), whilst tho district extends from Silvcrstream ,to Petone, and, somo ratepayers find it convenient to vote in Wellington'. The: result of the poll was:—' Arthur Daniel Kennedy 144' . F. do Jersey Clero ;........ 83 Informal .... ( ...... 2 , '.'; Total' : ........229') . Mr. Kennedy is head of the firm of A. D. Kennedy and Co., merchants, Wellington. He has been a resident of Lower 1 . Hutt for many years, and although ho has not occupied a seat on a public body before, ho has always-taken a keen interest in local affairs. ' /..- ' ■ v
