THE "SIXTY-FIVERS' SINGLES." The sixty-five years of age or over champion of champions singlo competition for members- of the Wellington, Victoria, Newtown and Thorndon Clubs commenced yesterday. Forty .entries were received. Play* .is taking place on'each of. tho four greens, and tho -tyri''finally .left in on each.green.'-are to attend at the Welling-: ton green to-morrow (Thursday) at 1.30 p.m., ; when tho first round of the finals will commence. . , Tho competition has been inaugurated by Mr. J. J. Roberts (hon. sec. N.8.A.), and the prize for tho winner is a' pair of ivory-nipunted bowls. Mr. Roberts is hopeful that _his idea will be taken up on broader lines, and that'in addition to nn open,-door policy for all ages, 'a full-rink competition for veterans Tvill-also bo a part of ■ the programrao at all tournaments, or that a spscial tournament for veterans be held each year, aid that two games a day only'bo played.
