REVALUING THE CITY.
THE WORK ABOUT TO COMMENCE: • Wellington city and its suburbs arc about to bo revalued. Several' Government valuers aro already at work in tlio suburbs, and their work will bo completed in readiness for th'o rating year, 1013-14. Tlio revaluation of tlio :city proper will lake longer, and will only come*'into force bo far as rating is concerned in 1914-15. Tlio work of revaluing the city lias been entrusted to Mr. Jas, Ames, who has been 1 for many years City Valuer and District Valuer to the Government. Tlio city was last revalued in 190 G. The first valuation upon unimproved values was made for tlio rating year 1902-3. Previously the City had been valued every three years, for purposes of property tax, since'lß6l.' It is expected that as a result of tlio revaluation now being made values in some of tlio suburbs, notably Island Bar. will bo brought down. In Northland, Brooklyn, and Kilbh-nie, values will probably remain about stationary, and in Wadosto\vn, Hataiti, and Kclburiic some increasein values may be looked for In tlio city proper it is expected 'that tlio value of properties on the principal business thoroughfares will go up somewhat, while tlio value .'of residential, properties in tho city may show a corresponding decline. Neither movement should be. wry pro-. nounced, nnd probably one will about balanco the other. The work of revaluing the, city proper will occupy a elenr six months. •
