MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) 'ON THE ARAHURA. ALLEGATIONS OF THEFT.' In tho Magistrate's Court yesterday, John James'Cotterill pleaded not guilty to a charge of his having stolen two watches and a watch-guard, of tho total value 0f.,£2 14s. 6d., from John Cross Atkinson. Both Cotterill and- Atkinson were employed on tho Arnhura.'"..-. Cotterill said that when he saw the watches in his pocket he thought that someone must have played a trick on him by putting them there. , His Worship decided that Cotterill must be convicted. Chief-Decteive Broberg then asked that sentence should be postponed till Friday. He said that some pawn tickets had been found in the prisoner's possession, and he (Detective Broberg) wished to make inquiries concerning them. His Worship agreed to'this course. ' , : OTHER CASES. ' For insobriety, John David Speight was fined ■£[, and Michael MTherson 10s. John Smith was fined. £Z for having used objectionable language at the Court*enav Place tramway shed. Claude O'Flaherty was ordered, to pay 65., and Leonard O'Flaherty 3s. towards the support of their brother, who is in Stoke Orphanage.
