A Nativo known as Sam David, resid* ing at' Tahoraite, appeared before Justices of tho Peace' this; morning charged with threatening to discharge: a loaded firearm at his wife with intent to maim or disfigure her. The occurrence took placo at Tahoraito on Saturday nt 0 p.m. Accused quarrelled with his wifo and threatened-to shoot her, and she ran to her neighbour's, Accused followed, with gun at, tho trail, some distance away. .On reaching tho house wherp his wife had taken refuge, the owner- of the house came out and tried to take the gun from accused, but only succeeded in extracting tho cartridges. Accused then went back with tho gun to his wharo, where ho was subser qucntly arrested. •'■ • ■■•-'■ His wifo declined to giro evidence against him, but an cloven-year-cld daughter told the'abovo story.
Accused pleaded not guilty, iihd was committed for trial at Palmorstou North.; Bail was Allowed, accused in the sum of .£2OO, and two sureties of J2IOO caoh. . .
