THOSE OBSOLETE GUNS.
: Sir,—lt is to bo hoped that tho matter of tho defectivo.mouutain battery will not' bo allowed to drop. The fault is not that of tho manufacturing firm,, but-of ,tho official who ordered tho guns. The guns are known as the F mountain guris, boro 10 calibres in length, weight 2341b., 'which is.near tho limit.a battery mule can carry.' Now, iio firm in the world can turn out a good miuutain gun under these specifications.; Length and weight must be increased, and tho only method known is that of dividing the gun in two parts, known as the jointed 'gun. This, of course, creates a much more powerful weapon to bo carried. If tho responsible authorities refuse an explanation, then tho matter must bo held up till Parliament assembles.—l am, etc., ; P. WHITTEY, ' Lower.Hutt, January~3l.
