Sir—l noticod his Worship tho Mayor* Mr. M'Laren, at the; head of tho table at tho luncheon given to-day by tho New Zealand Club to his Excellency tho Governor. His Excellency gave a stirring address on tho.duties of all British subjects in connection with tho maintenance of our Navy. I noticed with pleasure that Mr. M'Laren, judging by tho expression of his face, approved of tho tenor of his Excellency's remarks.' I also noticed with pleasure that' Mr. M'Laren joined in tho applause nt the end of.the speech. Could it not, therefore, be.arranged for Mr, M'Laren to approach the Labour unions who recontly passedn-resolution condemning pur Defence Act, .«{nd convey to them the sentiments expressed by his Excellency tho Governor?—l. atn, etc., ' , .
